The pioneering rap artist Tupac Shakur only lived in Baltimore for four years of his short life. But a new book, to be released Tuesday by author Jeff Pearlman, makes the case that the rapper’s time in Charm City played an outsized role in his development. “The book devotes a lot of time to the city, and its impact on Tupac,” Pearlman wrote in an email, adding that he set out to write the definitive biography of Shakur, who died in 1996 at age 25 following a drive-by shooting in Las Vegas.
